TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants to Host Dine to Donate Benefitting Veterans
TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR) is hosting a one-day Dine to Donate fundraising event on Wednesday, May 17 at 14 of our Applebee’s restaurant locations across West Michigan. Proceeds will directly benefit the Veteran Program through Habitat for Humanity of Kent County (Habitat Kent).
Throughout the fundraising event, 10% of all food sales will be donated to Habitat Kent to go toward materials for a current home build for an Iraqi War veteran. Additional funds collected will be earmarked to provide support for employment resources and financial/homeownership education. The money will also help provide home repairs for other veteran and military families in Kent County and beyond, as the Veteran Program for Habitat Kent continues to expand into surrounding areas.
Habitat Kent recognizes the vital role of a home in helping veterans reintegrate into civilian life. An affordable, permanent home is essential for stability—something often elusive during military service—and empowers veterans to become members of their civilian communities after their service has concluded.
Since 2011, Habitat Kent has served 70 veterans, built five veteran homes, completed 39 veteran repair projects and have held 18 Vet-Hats events focused on service to the community and fellowship for local veterans.

In addition to the Dine to Donate event, Applebee’s will be selling Habitat Kent cards from Wednesday, June 7 through Sunday, June 11 to raise additional funds. The cards, which were designed by an Iraqi War marine veteran through the program (HAS HEART), offers a therapeutic creative outlet for veterans. They will be signed by guests that donate and hung up in the restaurant.
Those who donate $5 or more will receive a $5 bounce-back coupon good for a future visit. A portion of the sales of the cards will go toward royalty fees for veteran artists who share their stories through art work.
In 2016, there were more than 9,000 homeless people in Michigan—with more than 800 of them being veterans. As a strong supporter of our veterans and active military service men and women throughout the year, it is our honor to partner with Habitat Kent’s Veteran Program to help them in their mission to provide shelter and other resources to the brave men and women who have, and continue to serve our country.
