The Schostak family has had a footprint in Michigan for nearly 100 years. Since 1920, the company’s activities have included real estate development, acquisitions and leasing of retail, office, industrial, residential and mixed use projects, both urban and suburban. The fourth generation family based out of Livonia, MI currently operates commercial properties in several states throughout the Midwest as a full-service real estate development, management, leasing and consulting company.

In the early 1980s, an opportunity presented itself. The company was managing a shopping center in Alpena, MI. The BURGER KING® Corporation had an option on a site in front of the shopping center, but they could not find a qualified franchisee to start the operation. BURGER KING® turned to the Schostaks and asked if they were interested in becoming the franchisee. The Schostaks were looking to diversify their real estate business to include in the company’s portfolio a day-to-day operating business. This opportunity seemed to be a good fit and the first venture proved to be a success. The company grew from 1 to 60 BURGER KING® restaurants located throughout Michigan. In July 2015, after being in business with BURGER KING® for 34 years, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants sold the 60 BURGER KING® restaurants to GPS Hospitality in an effort to diversify their portfolio. 

In April 2004, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants entered into a development agreement with Olga’s Kitchen, Inc. to build restaurants in the Detroit Metropolitan area.

In July 2005, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants introduced Michigan to Del Taco, a successful West Coast, Mexican concept. To date, eight restaurants have been opened in Michigan. The first restaurant, located at the corner of Ford Road and Telegraph in Dearborn, set a franchise record for opening restaurant sales. Currently, we are looking to expand Del Taco throughout Michigan and have plans to open 11 more locations.

In September 2012, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants acquired 65 Applebee’s Restaurants located throughout lower Michigan. Applebee’s is known for its fun and family-friendly neighborhood atmosphere, along with signature grill and bar menu items that guests can only get at Applebee’s.

In 2015, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants entered into a franchise partnership with MOD Pizza, announcing plans to launch 25 MOD Pizza restaurants in Michigan. Based in Seattle, MOD’s individual artisan-style pizzas are made on demand, using fresh-pressed dough and signature sauces. Since then,TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants has opened 13 MOD Pizza restaurants, with more locations underway.

Additionally in 2015, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants’ affiliate SOK Venture LLC acquired all assets of Troy, Mich.-based Olga’s Kitchen, Inc. Read more about the acquisition here. Today, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants owns and operates 27 Olga’s Kitchen locations, as well as one restaurant under a licensed agreement for the brand.

With a proven legacy of growing great quick service concepts in Michigan due to the hard work and dedication of its TEAM, in 2019, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants announced it had purchased 56 Wendy’s locations throughout the state.

The key to our growth is continued focus on maintaining quality operations and our involvement in our local communities. We place guest service and community commitment as our top priorities. We provide local jobs and participate in community activities, such as school fundraisers, child identity programs, special character days and holiday events.

The continued success of our restaurant portfolio is deeply rooted in our people. A key component of our core values, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants offers special training and development programs to our talented team to provide them with the opportunity to advance within our organization, which also assures our guests of the finest service available.

As part of our ongoing commitment to our core values, and in particular, our people, we have created a family environment across our organization to ensure our team members excel both professionally and personally. Our continued investment in our people’s success has led to the creation of the TSFR Care Fund. As part of this program, employees can donate a portion of each paycheck to the TSFR Care Fund. The funds collected will directly benefit TSFR employees during their time of need. The program is mirrored after Applebee’s Heidi Fund, which was created in 2002 after its namesake was undergoing financial hardship as a result of her son’s rare heart defect. Despite her family’s mounting debt, when Heidi found $3,300 in cash that a guest left behind, she instinctively did the right thing and returned the money. Her kindness was repaid with an outpouring of financial support from her fellow team members, and Applebee’s ongoing commitment to providing employees with financial assistance brought on by a catastrophic life event. Together, TSFR and our team members have created a platform through the TSFR Care Fund for our employees to benefit from the generosity of all.

TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants is committed to a variety of civic and charitable organizations within the community, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Make-A-Wish Michigan. We also support our communities by participating in selected Second Harvest Programs to provide food to disadvantaged families.
